College Counseling
Welcome to College Counseling at the Academy in Manayunk, where our goal is to guide all of our students and their families through the entire college process. To begin with, our Dean of Student Life meets frequently with each of our high school students to help them identify their affinities, strengths, and goals. During this process, self-advocacy skills necessary for life beyond high school are developed and refined. For each of our students, we identify institutions of higher learning that meet their personal, academic and professional goals. We strive to find colleges that align with each of our student's unique learning style, intellectual gifts and areas of affinity. Factored into the process are the student's abilities, talents, special needs, and the size, location, and cost of the college. Students and parents are counseled in regards to the need for updated psycho educational testing and type of accommodations that might be needed in the college setting.

Additionally, we provide support in the following critical steps to successful college acceptance:

  1. Test Preparation, including the PLAN in the fall of sophomore year
  2. Resume Building
  3. Interview Skills
  4. Application Process
  5. Essay Writing

At the Academy in Manayunk, we invite admission representatives from local colleges as well as institutions from around the country to visit our school. Our primary objective with these on-site visits is to ensure that a wide variety of competitive colleges and universities gain a deeper understanding and awareness of our unique, rigorous academic program. We feel confident knowing that each one of our students possesses the gifts, skills, strengths and motivation that will enable them to perform well at the college level.
