Academic Programs

The Academy offers a college preparatory curriculum that challenges and supports each student. Critical thinking skills, mastery of basic knowledge and social awareness skills are combined to create an environment in which children can focus on intellectual and personal achievement. The Academy In Manayunk follows the Lab School of Washington™ approach to teaching children with learning disabilities. Click here to view a video about the Lab School approach.

Individualized instruction is a cornerstone of the Academy In Manayunk program. Each student receives an individualized teaching plan in reading, math, writing, spelling and computer instruction. While a 6:1 student to teacher ratio ensures that all students will receive personal attention, many students at the Academy will also take part in individualized or smaller tutorial sessions to help them maximize their learning potential. Related services, such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and intensive tutoring in reading are also available.

The Arts (drawing, painting, three-dimensional design, wood working, music, dance, and theater) provide opportunities for students to learn through all of their senses, and to demonstrate mastery of learning in alternate ways. The Academic Club Methodology™ provides students in the elementary and middle school years with a total immersion experience in the study of history and culture.
