October 16, 2008 – More than 300 board members, families, and friends of Philadelphia’s AIM~Academy In Manayunk came together at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts to celebrate the new school’s Live It! Learn It! philosophy and honor accomplished businessman and philanthropist Matthew S. Naylor.

AIM is a research to practice school serving children, parents and educators in the field of learning disabilities. In conjunction with The Lab School of Washington® founded by Sally L. Smith over 40 years ago, AIM opened in the fall of 2006.  Now in just its third year, AIM’s enrollment is over 100 students in grades 1 through 9 and approximately 1,000 area students have benefited from the teacher training provided by AIM.

Matt Naylor was diagnosed with dyslexia in the 10th grade, after struggling with reading and writing in grades 1-9.   Through the support of his parents, educational systems, and his strong determination, Matt overcame his learning challenges and became the Chief Executive Officer of the Elite Family of Companies.  As a member of the AIM Board of Trustees, Matt works very closely with the school to ensure the students receive the appropriate teaching methods and tools they need to overcome the learning challenges they face every day. Matt’s passion to help students is both inspirational and admirable, and is why AIM~Academy In Manayunk selected him as its first award recipient.

“It is humbling the way our AIM community, business and education leaders, and everyone who knows Matt Naylor has come out to support AIM,” stated AIM Executive Director Patricia Roberts.  “Our passion is to provide the Philadelphia region with an exciting new approach to teaching children with learning disabilities and a commitment to reach into the community through professional development. The support raised through AIM for the Stars will go a long way in helping us reach our goals for children in this region, like a young Matt Naylor, who struggle to read.”
