Academy In Manayunk Highlights
- At the commencement of our fourth year, enrollment reached 116 students for the 2009-2010 school year. 11th grade will be added in the Fall of 2010.
- Based on the 42 year model of The Lab School of Washington®
- All classroom teachers are Wilson Language System® Level I Certified as of 6/09
- Level I and Level II Wilson Trainer on staff
- All classroom teachers are trained in LETRS®, a leading research-based training program developed by Louisa Moats and endorsed by the state of Pennsylvania
- Lower school teachers and speech and language pathologists trained in RAVE-O®, a vocabulary and fluency program developed by Dr. Maryanne Wolf from Tufts University
- All classroom teachers are certified in Special Education, Reading, and/or Subject Expertise, many with Master's degrees in Special Education and Reading
- 4 Full time Speech and Language Pathologists provide classroom instruction, teacher consultation, and individualized therapy to students
- Speech and Language Pathologists are trained to provide Linguistics, Lindamood-Bell Visualizing Verbalizing®, RAVE-O and Suzanne Carreker's Metacognition programs
- Temple University sends top Speech and Language interns to AIM
- 2 Full time Occupational Therapists and one part time OT provide classroom instruction, teacher consultation, and individualized therapy to students
- Occupational Therapists trained in leading program of Interactive Metronome
- Occupational therapists trained in the Sensory Integration Praxis Test and treatment strategies using sensory integration
- Thomas Jefferson University sends graduate level researchers and interns to explore the occupational therapy programs at AIM
- 3 Full time Psychologists and School Psychologists provide evaluations, classroom instruction, teacher and parent consultation and support to students
- Girl's and Boy's Leadership curriculum (grades 6-9) led by the Department of Psychological Services
- Temple University launches research project in Cogmed Working Memory Training Program and curriculum-based progress monitoring in mathematics with AIM’s department of Psychological Services
- Temple University co-presents at national conference with AIM Psychologists
- 3 Faculty members are certified as Fundations® Presenters
- Progress Monitoring including individual and group administered measures utilizing AIMSweb®, Fuchs curriculum-based assessment and other standard test measurements in order to monitor progress and individualize instruction
- 150 Teachers trained in Wilson Language Systems® and Fundation® this year alone
- Internationally known consultant and past president of the International Dyslexia Association, Nancy Hennessey, consults in the areas of reading, writing, spelling and vocabulary with the faculty and staff of AIM
- Career Academy launched in the Upper School with both career visits and career fairs
- Team Spirit takes on new meaning with the addition of Upper School sports teams in Soccer, Basketball and Baseball
- State Representative Kathy Manderino recognizes 2 High School students for their Leadership and Achievement
- Expanded technology provides laptop program for the High School students as well as additional Smart Boards and computers in classrooms
- International travel added to expand background knowledge with High School trip to Italy
- West Chester University has named 4 teachers at AIM to their Educator 500 program for innovative and entrepreneurial educators
- St. Joseph's University taps 2 educators at AIM to develop their Master's degree level online courses in Special Education
